My husband and our 6 year old all trekked to New York last week. He was on business going to conference. I just needed to get out of the house and have a week at the museums, old girl friend visiting, the Natural History museum, the Central Park Zoo and all with an effort to come back without applying for a home equity loan.
We have a close friends who live the New York life on 87th and 3rd and they suggested that we try a hotel up the way from them that would give us suites and a residential feel. Our week was great. Not a stresser. We actually credit this hotel -the Marmara Manhattan. The hotel is on the upper east side at 92nd. There is an art gallery that makes up the lobby and a terrific Mediterranean style take out store in a corner of the building. We felt like we were living in an apartment building rather than a hot scene hotel. The concierge told us that most of the guests lived at the hotel for months. I had no trouble walking with out daughter up to the subway and over to the museums. Up in that part of town, there were taxis whenever we had to resort to them. I would come back around lunch and we'd have lunch up in the suite from the corner take - out and feel that we'd had a feast. The suite was large - again, like a one bedroom apartment, bright walls, good big windows and no "hilton" like furniture. Real furniture. The restaunats that our friends took us to at night in the area were good neighborhood experiences. We all had a good, easy time and my husband felt like he was "coming home" every afternoon after his conference. We spread out and settled into New York life. The concierge said that's what all the guests do. The gallery was a treat for me and my daughter started an art project based on what she saw there.
If we were coming to New York for a long time, this would have been an excellent choice as a New York long term stay hotel. |

I heard that one of the best hotels to stay at when in New York is the Waldorf Astoria. I think celebrities love to stay there. Though I also read somewhere that Trump towers remain as the best place to stay in the city as its location is great. _________________ Investments Vietnam |

New York is a wonderful place to visit, but not to live. . . and unfortunately, like living there, everything is expensive -- if not MORE expensive. The Waldorf Astoria is absolutely magnificent -- you're not going to find a much better hotel than that one. The biggest problem is that you'll be paying a pretty penny just to stay there.
My suggestion? If you're not picky about your sleeping accommodations, seek out motels in the outer boros. Why? Because NYC as a whole is amazing, but you'll want to save your pennies to do everything. The hotel should be the last thing you think about, in my opinion. _________________ how much is the average 5 star hotel? |
